A PART OF ME

IVA GIDIKOVA with the premiere of the album “Part of Me” in Plovdiv – October 3, Ancient Theater

When it’s dark…
When the sun shines…
When searching for the soul…
Hope is the basin that a berry will sow…
And the music…
Gives, gives birth and lives!
/Iva Gidikova /

In 2020, the first double solo album of folk singer Iva Gidikova – “Part of Me” was released. It contains 21 songs – 13 from Pazardzhik and 8 folk songs, with music and lyrics by Iva Gidikova herself, processing and arrangement by Alexander Todorov. In 2022, the album won first place in the “Singing” ranking of the BNR and Hristo Botev program, Album of the Year category.

The premiere of the album “Part of Me” will be presented for the first time to the residents and guests of the city of Plovdiv – on October 3, Ancient Theater, 7:00 p.m. The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the richly ornamented and beautiful Pazardzhik songs from “the grandmother’s chest” and the new original songs of Iva Gidikova from different folklore regions of Bulgaria, in each of which she puts a piece of her soul. In the arrangements, Alexander Todorov relies on different musical techniques and means of expression for folklore, so that each one is presented according to its character – from folk-folk to wedding to “ethnic”.

The program of the concert also includes two new singles – “Tam…visoko (There… high)” and “Lyulchina pesen (Cradle song)”, through which the singer is shown in a slightly different light. “Tam…visoko” is an ethno-rock piece and an emotional outburst of the author, provoked by the rapprochement with nature in one of its purest essences. “Lyulchina pesen” is composed of a voice, accompanied by a vocal trio, which are the “backbone” of the play. The melody is of great scope – a reference to the Gregorian type of singing, supported by orthodox harmony – intertwined with our traditional polyphony.

Special participants: Alexander Todorov (kaval), Marinela Rangelova, Tanya Stoeva, Tsonka Dimitrova (backing vocals), Ivan Georgiev (bagpipes), Borislav Galabov (guitar), Ivelin Bojanov (tambourine/guitar), Yavor Kumanov (accordion), Vladimir Velikov ( piano), Zhivko Ivanov (drums).
